Domestic Violence Acquired Brain Injury Recovery
This project will develop existing linkages and enable the expansion of an existing study aimed at improving early treatment, individual health and living standards
Value
Acquired Brain Injury as a result of non-accidental injury, concussions and domestic violence requires early intervention and follow up not always available onsite in communities
The Monash Trauma Group is looking to facilitate an expansion of an existing research initiative. Such a program is not without its challenges and involves identifying appropriate populations to participate in the study and establishing research infrastructure in remote destinations
Nullar Stuart will look to establish these links to drive an important health outcome forward
Scope
This internationally recognized research team is focused on identifying the effects of trauma (both physical and emotional), how they relate to other mental health disorders (e.g., substance abuse, depression, pain, neurodegenerative disease), and developing interventions to improve outcomes
These studies have resulted in new objective methods to identify when a brain injury has occurred and are in the midst of evaluating a number of clinical interventions that show promise in improving outcomes for these patients
We are looking to facilitate implementation of this program through hospitals and regional health centres for the long term value of individuals and their families residing in remote locations
Ethics
The project has its own data recording and quality assurance methodologies which is subject to third party scrutiny including ethics committees and local health authorities
Innovation
Empowering Indigenous communities through innovation & collaboration
